Find the Best Brands for Your Furniture

Different types of furniture stores appeal to varying demographics, and you can find a wide range of stores that cater to specific styles or price points. Unsurprisingly, many of the most successful retailers in the U.S. are those that sell furniture at relatively low prices.

The Best Furniture Stores

The following retailers make it onto the top 10 list year after year, consistently if not always in the same order.

Some of them are single source stores, carrying furnishings from just one manufacturer, while others carry a broad range of furniture and bedding categories from different sources and across a variety of price points.

Most of these retailers also sell online (check their websites) and have a social media presence through Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube to stay in touch with their customers.

1. Ashley Furniture

Ashley is a leading furniture manufacturer, and the giant Ashley Home Stores make up a network of Ashley’s dedicated stores across the United States, as well as in other parts of the world. Some are company-owned, and many are franchised. These stores carry mostly affordable furniture at promotional to mid-level price points, and this is their biggest draw.

2. IKEA

IKEA is a lifestyle specialty store, selling not just furniture and bedding but a complete lifestyle. It has both loyal fans and detractors.

But when you need furniture in a hurry and have the minimal skills required to assemble it from a flat pack, IKEA comes to mind. The furniture is smaller in scale and made to fit in smaller spaces. Like Ashley, its biggest selling point is affordability. The looks are very different, as IKEA’s furniture is more streamlined and modern.

You could be shopping at a Williams-Sonoma store and just not know it. Pottery Barn, PB Teen, Pottery Barn Kids, West Elm, Williams-Sonoma, Rejuvenation and Mark and Graham are all part of Williams-Sonoma. Together, they form a leading network of multi-brand lifestyle stores across the United States. Marks and Graham is the most recent newcomer and goes beyond home furnishings to offer personalized products and gifts. West Elm offers more streamlined and smaller-scaled furniture, and it appeals to younger buyers. Pottery Barn is more upscale, with Pottery Barn Kids offering furnishings for children, while PB Teen is the first store of its kind caters to teenagers.

4. Berkshire Hathaway Furniture

Among the many holdings of Berkshire Hathaway are these stores, which make up its furniture division: Nebraska Furniture Mart, R.C. Willey, Star Furniture and Jordan’s Furniture. Nebraska Furniture Mart operates out of three huge stores in Nebraska, Missouri, and Iowa. R.C. Willey operates in Utah, Idaho, Nevada and California for a total of 13 stores. Star Furniture can be found in Texas in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Bryan/College Station, while Jordan’s operates in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

All these stores carry furniture from multiple brands and sources.

5. Raymour & Flanigan

Raymour & Flanigan is a mid-priced, multiple-brand store — a furniture store in the traditional sense. Headquartered in Liverpool, New York, it has close to 100 stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Delaware, and Rhode Island.

DIY Gold Ikea Nesting Tables

It is hard to recognize after the beautiful transformation, but originally this blue burlap panelled dresser was just the regular 6 drawer Tarva chest from Ikea. With the addition of some decorative burlap, moulding, paint and some extra wood to thicken the legs the end result is absolutely stunning.

Add a glam finish with this easy Ikea Hack for the Vittsjo Nesting Tables by using gold spray paint on the frame and white spray paint on the bottom shelf to give the tables a new chic look.

Often it can be hard to find the space in a bedroom for a vanity to get ready in the morning in front of, but using Ikea’s Alex Shelf as a base, you can add wood legs and additional wall brackets for extra support to create your own narrow vanity that can fit even in small bedrooms.

A long black second-hand tv unit was beautifully updated with white paint and gold paint on the legs to give it a stylish new finish without spending much money.

Using an Ikea Malm Headboard found in the As Is section at Ikea as the base the headboard was updated with peel and stick wood stickers to cover the headboard to give it a warmer rustic feel.

Re-style your old dressers into nightstands with a fresh coat of paint, and by adding leather and brass detailing to update your bedroom this weekend.
